30.04.18 – Michael Trainor talks to Unlimited about a new opportunity for disabled artists at A B&B

Occasionally Unlimited partners with other arts organisations to co-commission work with a very specific brief. This time, the brief is very specific indeed – creating work for Blackpool’s very own Art Bed and Breakfast! Jo Verrent, Senior Producer for Unlimited, talks to Michael Trainor, Project Director for A B&B…Read the interview HERE

A B&B is partnering with Unlimited to seek exciting and imaginative proposals from disabled artists, disabled-led arts collectives or arts organisations. We are partnering with Unlimited to ensure disabled artists are represented – all other A, B&B opportunities are open to all artists, including disabled artists.

14.11.17  Art B&B Plots to Steal Holiday Home from Folkestone

Garth Gratrix and Michael Trainor have recently returned from a little art espionage in Folkestone on behalf of Art B&B. The two intrepid explorers who are leading the art commissioning side of the (officially amazing) Blackpool project visited the tail end of Folkestone’s Triennial art expo with a view to eliciting some advice from its creative director Lewis Biggs (who also established Tate Liverpool and ran Liverpool Biennial).

During coffee and discussions with the wise and generous Mr Biggs, Garth commenced a cunning plot to acquire 3 ‘Holidays Homes’ to bring back to Blackpool. Find out more HERE

BOARD MEMBERS WANTED

Come on Board! A B&B are looking for new Board Members to join a growing capital development project that is of community interest. The Board Pack and application guidelines can be found HERE

A B&B appointed Blackpool based Architects Joseph Boniface Architects. The design team are hard at work designing multifunction spaces, a new art bar space and a suite of Blank canvas bedrooms that support the installation of art. From the bathrooms to the door knobs, everything is being considered, costed and put into a bigger picture. Most importantly, where the Tea and coffee gets served.

A B&B fundraising reaches pioneering heights for arts and communities. In the last 18 months A B&B has raised in excess of £1M. This is a major milestone for arts and cultural assets located on Blackpool Promenade and allows the project to achieve its full ambitions to commission a large number of new artworks, develop a training and development programme, address all the capital building needs and explore outreach and socially engaged models of working with the communities and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Planning permission has been granted for A B&B. Blackpool Council received an application proposal from A B&B to achieve a space that worked for artists and communities. This application has now been successful and allows A B&B to open up the ground floor to be used as public amenity space, provides a substantial extension to the building at the rear to enable more platforms for emerging performance to be show and trialled to new audiences. The space created through this application also allows us to sustain space available for community groups and local partnerships to be developed and supported as part of an ongoing programme of activity.

27.01.17 – A unique opportunity for an innovative and experienced Programme Manager to lead on establishing and developing AB&B. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in developing a highly unusual commercial business which will in turn support and host a community hub, cafe and public programme of activities and training.
